An Overview of the Book
The book “A Complete Guide to Volume Price Analysis” by Anna Coulling is a fantastic book that I would highly recommend for any trader who truly wants to understand how and why the markets move and become more successful in trading. It offers readers a comprehensive exploration of how price and volume work together to inform trading decisions. The book serves as both an introduction for beginners and a valuable resource for seasoned traders looking to refine their strategies.
After reading the book you will gain insights into reading volume to help determine the true strength or weakness of price movement. While many different books and courses can help you learn to read price action this book highlights the sometimes overlooked key to reading the markets and that is volume.
“Volume price analysis is Anna Coulling’s own terminology.” It helps us answer the question “where is the price going next? This methodology can be applied to trading all asset classes in all time frames. The goal of the book is to help one learn to be able to interpret charts and forecast price action more consistently.
In the introduction she states that “There are only two leading indicators in trading. One is price, the other is volume. In isolation, they are weak and reveal little, but put them together, and just like gunpowder, they become an explosive combination. In discovering the power of Volume Price Analysis for yourself, you will be shocked and wonder why you never used this before.”
This is pretty much exactly how I felt after reading the book and began to really learn to read price and volume together. I believe this has made me a much better trader and my winning percentage and as well as more profitability from trading have both gone up since implementing what I learned in this book. The lessons from this book now form a basic building block for all my trade decisions.
Key Concepts Highlighted
The book is very well organized, easy to read and understand and has a lot of great examples to illustrate her points. One of the standout features of Coulling’s work is her thorough explanation of volume price analysis. She illustrates how understanding volume can reveal the true strength or weakness of price movements. Through practical examples, she demonstrates how traders can effectively analyze market trends and make informed decisions while mitigating risks.
She does a good job of explaining how there is nothing new in trading and how the principles of this amazing system can be traced back to great traders in the past like Charles Dow and Richard Wyckoff. At the beginning of the book she lays a great foundation of the three basic laws of trading that Wyckoff is known for. 1. The law of supply and demand. 2. The law of cause and effect and 3. The law of effort vs. result. Then building on those fundamental basics of what moves markets she dives into explaining the importance of volume, how to read volume in association with candlestick charts and really develops a trading system that will help you read the markets better and should make anyone a more profitable trader.
Why You Should Read This Book
Coulling’s neutral and friendly tone makes complex concepts accessible and easy to understand while fostering a trustworthy atmosphere for readers at any level. Both the beginning trader to the more seasoned one should benefit from this book. The engaging writing style combined with useful illustrations enhances understanding, making this book a valuable addition to any trader’s library. I would say this is a must read for ever trader and probably the most helpful book I have read in learning how and why markets move. Whether you are just starting your trading journey or are looking to gain deeper insights into market dynamics, “A Complete Guide to Volume Price Analysis” is a must-read.
